Bosch Rexroth, leading supplier of drive and control technology and Industry 4.0 pioneer, is investing in expanding the Factory of the Future in China. The 50 million pound investment will double the company’s development and production capabilities in the city of Xi’an.
The state-of-the-art production facility will combine Bosch Rexroth’s expertise in automation, assembly technology and linear motion technology under one roof, expanding its range of comprehensive factory automation solutions for customers in Asia. It will also serve as a model plant for Industry 4.0 technologies.
Expanding global development and production capacities
Bosch Rexroth has been operating in China since 1978. In addition to Xi’an, the company operates two production facilities in Beijing and Wujin and an Industry 4.0 innovation centre in the city of Chengdu. The planned expansion, which is expected to be fully operational by early 2020, will help Bosch Rexroth meet increased demand for technological and manufacturing innovation in this growing market.
Andrew Minturn, Strategic Product Manager at Bosch Rexroth explains, “By expanding our manufacturing capacities in Xi’an, the company is continuing to roll out its vision of the factory of the future across the globe. Equipped with the latest Industry 4.0 technologies, the plant will meet local demand and will become the centre of factory automation for Bosch Rexroth in Asia.”
Bosch Rexroth’s approach to Industry 4.0
Andrew continues, “When it comes to Industry 4.0, we employ a dual strategy – developing and implementing Industry 4.0 technologies in our own factories, before rolling out proven solutions to industry. With Factory of the Future plants now operational across many of our facilities worldwide, including an award winning site in Scotland, we’re keen to build on our current capabilities and create technologies that play a pivotal role in preparing manufacturing facilities for the demands of modern industry.“
New technologies for the Factory of the Future
A large number of solutions developed by Bosch Rexroth for the Factory of the Future are already in use at customer sites and Bosch plants worldwide. In Xi’an, much like the company’s plants in the UK and Scotland, technology such as IoT gateways facilitate the transmission of data from sensors installed in machines to the cloud, ActiveCockpit processes manufacturing data in real time and Nexeed Automation assists machine operators with diagnoses and troubleshooting.
